Description
More than sixty former towns and wayside places are described in this updated and enlarged 2nd edition of ‘Ghost Towns of the High Country’ by Luke Steenhuis.
With the exception of the historic Blue Duck Hotel at Anglers Rest, they are all places that formerly hosted business houses during the goldfields boom and bust era between the 1850s and 1950s. Some are now quiet or abandoned mountain localities with ever-diminishing remnants of their past. Others have entirely vanished off modern-day maps.
This edition expands and improves on those places and stories described in the first edition, drawing on the vast amount of information and public records that have recently been made available via the internet.
Coverage includes that part of the Victorian Alpine region between Bairnsdale in Gippsland and Bright in North-Eastern Victoria. Thus copy has some water damage with wavey pages towards the back and back cover. Overwise perfectly readable book all the way through.
